Your motors are the 2nd heaviest component on your Micro FPV Drone. This is based in large part because there are 4 of them!
So, what's the big deal if a motor weighs 15 grams instead of 10 grams anyway? Well, since there are 4 motors, take that extra 5 grams and multiply it by 4 and you have set of motors on your Micro FPV drone that weigh 20 grams more than the motors which only weigh 10 grams each! This extra 20 grams could easily be 10% of the quad's overall weight. You may be able to use this extra 20 grams for a higher capacity battery resulting in longer flight times.
So, if you've got the option to choose between 2 similarly performing brands/types of motors and one weighs even slightly less than the other - go with the lighter weight motor!
Below I've included a short video on how to choose the best micro FPV motor for your Micro FPV Drone. It includes the important parameters to consider when choosing a motor for your Micro FPV Drone and also a Simple 5-Step Method you can easily follow to make your informed decision.
Below the instructional video, I've provided you with a BONUS! - a link to the TMac Micro FPV Motors Chart! This Micro FPV Motors Chart is now on its 6th Edition and compares 86 motors ranging in size to suit 40mm props all the way up to 4 inch props, 2S-6S LiPo battery capability, from 18 different manufacturers and FREE for you to download at the link provided below! It'll help ensure you get the “Most Thrust for Your Buck!”
Near the bottom of this page, I've wrapped things up by including a few of my favorite motors I've got installed on my 3"- 4" Micro FPV drones for both extended flight times and times to "let 'er rip!"
AirBlade 1404 motors are the most efficient I've ever flown. They come in 2500Kv, 3850Kv, and 4850Kv versions. I've got the 2500Kv version on both my Rattler XF (Xtended Flight) and my Pygmy Rattler builds. I can get over 17 minutes of flight time using these with the right LiPo battery! Lightweight (only 9.37g) & quiet too! I've also got the 3850Kv version on my 3" FlexRC Colugo build for a little extra punch and some really smooth HD flight videos using the Caddx Tarsier V2. 9x9mm mounting pattern.
These are my 2nd favorite quiet, efficient, & smooth-running motors (after the AirBlades). They come in 2750, 3750 and 4850 "flavors." I've got the 3750Kv version on one of my Diamondback Rattlers. Niiiice & sweet! 12x12mm mounting pattern. 9.5g
Faaast! Not the lightest weight around coming in at ~15 grams, but a whole lotta fun! I've got the 3600Kv version on my Arrow 3 Hybrid. This is still one of my favorite Micro FPV drones to fly. Just take her out, shoot some gaps and get your adrenaline pumpin'! These also come in 2300Kv versions which I have not tried (yet) but might be worth a shot for some extended flights?!? If you've tried 'em, let me know!
